Our History

Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, The Effect began in 1991 as a two-staff learning and development enterprise called the Effective Training Company.

By 2000, the team had grown to include facilitator and ex-CEO Annette Ryan. Annette spent several years expanding her business and facilitation experience with advanced international study, bringing a new focus on emotional intelligence and results-oriented behavioural change to the business.

In 2004, the company became Effective4, with the driving purpose of bringing specialised emotional intelligence tools into Australasia from overseas.

2006 saw Annette become the sole director and The Effect was born. The organisation continued its evolution to an organisation that unlocks the potential in people and organisations: equipping them with practical tools for success. Today, The Effect is an organisational development company specialised in emotional intelligence.
