The Effect were invited this year to attend the
Australasian HR Summit March 10-12 on the Gold Coast, a prestigious event with the primary objective of exploring the key aspects and critical issues facing the HR community as delivered by some of its most esteemed professionals and thought leaders.
This presented a great opportunity to network and reaffirm that we are on the right path with our clients, doing the right things rather than doing things right.
The Summit by-line was 'pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work', and all sessions were focused on the top priorities of the modern HR executive: being a talented strategist, leadership developer, change master and productive work environment architect.
As organisational development specialists the good news is that we see businesses responding from a crisis ad-hoc point of view less and less, however when developing workforce planning initiatives the links to corporate strategy are often still weak. The key points made reinforced our passion to ensure all of our people performance initiatives are aligned to overall business vision and strategy.
3 presentations in particular stood out as being aligned to our market:
E-bay: Creating Leverage Through Talent
- Hire above what you think you need
- Hire people that fit you, not just with the relevent experience
- Work for people that will make a difference
- Know your sector and key talent
PWC: The Evolution of Work for 2010
This decade is focused on 'Seeing is Believing' with the key behaviours of abundance thinking, agility of mind, partnering with the client, commercial business behaviour, congruence, collaboration, and showing you care.
Baker & McKenzie: The Changing Nature of Leadership
- Challenges are becoming more complex
- Greater reliance on independent work
- Rise of new leadership skill set: building and mending relationships, change management and collaboration
- View leadership as a collective process; connected leadership
These key points give all leaders a great checklist for assessing where they are positioned for 2010. Enjoy!
